Highlights of WYSL Rule Changes and Clarifications
Spring 2008
The following summary highlights the WYSL rule changes and clarifications for Spring 2008. This summary is not complete and is qualified in its entirety by the actual rules set forth in the WYSL’s Handbook, to which reference is made.
Updates and Seasonal Changes
1. Roster Changes. Article I.2.C Deadline for roster changes reverts to prior to the third game of the season (April 27).
2. Scheduling of TBS Games. Article X.3. TBS games must be scheduled before the third game of season.
3. Silent Sunday. Article IV(6). This season, Silent Sunday will be in effect for the games to be played on May 4, 2008, the fourth scheduled Sunday of the season.
Permanent Changes/Clarifications
4. Minimum Number of Players. Article I.2.A(1). The minimum number of players on a For U9 or U10 roster is eight (8), i.e., the number of players on the field at any one time (conforming change).
5. Delayed Effect of Transfers. Article I.2.F(3). Players transferring in-season must wait 30 days to play for new team.
6. Online Referee Reports. Rules III.1.D, III.2.A and III.2.C. Amended to reflect the online referee reporting system.
7. Penalty Spot for U11 and Younger. Article IV.4. Clarified as eight (8) yards from goal line.
8. Protective Equipment. Article V.3. The authority of the referee to make the ultimate determination as to equipment safety, as well as the responsibility of parents and players, was clarified.
9. Sporting Committee. Article VII.7.B. The Rule was clarified that Sporting Committee may have informal contacts with clubs and coaches.
10. Divisions and Seeding. Article IX.1. The Rule was simplified and the Seeding Committee given additional flexibility.
